Frequently Asked Questions

Which is more effective against blocked sewers?

A plumbing electric eel (otherwise known as a plumber's snake) is a steel cable with a cutter on the end designed to churn and chew through the blockage of the sewer or stormwater line. The water jetter, however is more effective in dislodging blockages. It also works just as well 50 metres down the line as it does at the initial entry point. The electric eel is less effective the further it goes down the line.

How will I know if I have drainage and sewer blockages?

  • Foul smells and gurgling noises.
  • Water appliances won't empty properly.
  • Overflowing of exterior shafts and vents.
  • Note: Blocked drains are bio-hazardous and water-wasting and should be fixed immediately.

How do I prevent Blocked Drains?

Preventing block drains Preventative measures include:

  • Replacing your old clay pipes with PVC pipes as the newer models are more hardy and offer more resistance to tree-root extensions.
  • Possibly replacing your offending tree with different vegetation after first considering its root structure. Blockage King can help you identify where your existing underground pipes are before you consider uprooting, replanting and possibly damaging your landscaping.

What are the main causes of blocked drains and blocked sewers?

  • Debris in the pipes, for instance silt
  • faults in the sewer line
  • Tree roots looking for moisture and extending themselves through the joins of pipes until they block them completely
  • Age and environmental decay.

What's a High Pressure Water Jet?

A high pressure water jetter is used to clear a blocked sewer or stormwater drain. Its nozzle is inserted into the sewer or stormwater line or pipe through an access point. It will then blast water down the line to clear whatever is causing the blockage. The Water Jet is a 5000 psi water pressure system which connects to our pressure hose with a specially designed nozzle at the end. It propels itself forward down your drain, blasting any foreign matter within area behind it and out of the drain.

It is kind of like a 100 metre long chimney sweep. But better! Ideal for blocked sewer & storm water drains, which have plenty of roots, rubbish, leaves, mud & roof silt. The jet also has a Mini Reel which is ideal for smaller drains from 100 mm down to 25 mm, clearing the likes of rusted galvanized waste pipes, wastes with grease, coffee grounds, hair other accumulated general waste.
